In a Nutshell

 Repost of announcement in eLearning..

Hi everyone.  We have a small class, 5 in all.  It begins after Memorial day on May 27th and the last day is July 3rd.  Since this is an art class, I have found that it works much better using a blog rather than eLearning.  Everything you need for class is on the blog.  Here is the address...

http://mod52025.blogspot.com

Your syllabus is linked from the blog, and in the syllabus are the links, tutorials, redings and instructions for each week.  In a nutshell:

-Shoot 50 pictures each week on the theme of the week outlined in the blog.  Put the 50 images in a Google Drive folder that you share with me using jnevins@albertus.edu  Create folders titled week 1, week 2, etc.

-Create a sub folder called edits, put your best 6-10 pictures there.  You will enhance your pictures using Photoshop.  You will have free access to it for the class.  You will need to download and install it from adobe.com.  Don't dowwnload the free version, when I give you the word (as IT has to add you to a special database) then go to Adobe and sign in.  there you can find and download Photoshop.

-Post your favorite images to the blog.  This is a way to build commuintiy and share your work with others. I comment on each post so that serves as your feedback each week.  Post comments to your peers in the class for their work.

-Email me anytime using jnevins@albertus.edu

-Only new work taken for the class can count towards your grade.

Take care,

Prof. Nevins

Welcome to Mod 5 Digital Photography!

Welcome to Digital Photography!  Take a moment to watch the how to post to the blog video linked in the upper right side.  It is important that you respond to the email blogger sent you in order to join the blog.  Click on the link and join the class blog.  Don't create your on blog as this will make it harder to join the class blog. Only members can post and comment here. Class runs from May 28th - July 18th 2024

Once you get going, you will see that using this blog for class is easy and intuitive... and so much nicer looking than the eLearning shell.  Albertus is a Google Apps for Education campus, and Blogger is one of the apps available to you.

Read this Adobe link on What is Fine Art Photography?

This class will move very fast.  There are 6 assignments in all, 1 per week.  For each assignment, you need to shoot a minimum of 50 images, posted to a folder in Google Drive.  Edit these down to your best 6-10 images and placed in a sub folder. Set up your Google Drive by creating folders labeled Project 1, project 2, etc.  Inside of each of these folder, create a subfolder labeled Edits. Be sure to put your name on the main folder and share it with me using jnevins@albertus.edu. For the first week, begin by posting a bio with a photo here on the blog.  Please state what camera you will be using.  If a phone, state the model. Download and install Photoshop using your Albertus credentials.  (link above). You should have either a Windows pc or laptop or a Mac desktop or laptop.  A chrome book can't run Photoshop.  You can work on any computer at Albertus if you need to.

I take attendance from the posts to this blog.  It is important to keep up to date with your posts.  Deadlines are each Monday morning.  2 attendance records will be reported every Monday for work posted to the blog the previos week.

Read through the assignments in the syllabus. This is your daily roadmap.  Use Google images to get ideas for your work.  The first assignment, Introduction to Composition asks you to think about finding geometry in your compositions using the built environment (not nature)  Here is a good short tutorial on the subject.

This is a workshop class.  To succeed, you need to save 6-10 of your best pieces, edited in Photoshop for light and focal point for each assignment in your Google Drive folder that is shared with me. All 50 or more of the images shot for each assignment are also posted in your Drive.  Post 2 or 3 of them here on the blog as a minimum and you may post all of your favorites as well..   If you miss a post, then there will be two absences recorded.  At 4 absences, the college will withdraw you from the class.

I comment on each and every post.  This serves as your feedback.  I want you to have fun with this class.  Please email me with any questions, jnevins@albertus.edu. Looking forward to working with you! Prof. Nevins
